Harley Wright Hicks Jr.'s Obituary
Harley Wright Hicks Jr., 85, passed away on February 22, 2023, in Sullivan, IL.
Harley was born to Harley Sr. and Ruth Hicks on August 16, 1937, in Seymour, IL. Harley joined the United States Army during the 1960s. One of his duties during that time was operating drones. He attended Illinois State University and got a Bachelors of Agricultural Education. He taught for a year then got certified in farm management.
He married Glenda Jean Dyer and they had their daughter, Melinda, together. When Glenda passed away, Harley remarried sometime later. He married Jayne Evelyn Evey on July 14, 2012. Harley enjoyed traveling wherever Jayne wanted to go. He was a fan of the Cardinals and the U of I Fighting Illini. Jayne passed away on January 26, 2016.
Harley was a member of the Illinois Farm Management Association and St. John's Episcopal Church in Decatur, IL.
Harley never knew a stranger. People would always stop and talk to Harley no matter where he went. Harley loved his family, most especially his grandkids.
Harley is survived by his children, Melinda Griffith, Linda Gaffron, Leslie Evey, Richard (Andrea) Evey Jr., siblings Lyle (Nyla) Hicks, Keith (Linda) Hicks; grandchildren, Christopher Calle, Kendra (Andrew Green) Miller, Matthew Calle, Joseph Calle; great granddaughter, Adeline; 10 nieces and nephews, and many extended family and friends.
Harley was preceded in death by his parents, wives; brother, Clarence Hicks; sisters, Olive Alderson, Edith Johnson.
Services will be held on March 3, 2023, at 12:00 PM at Moran and Goebel Funeral Home with a visitation an hour prior.
