Harold L. "Grandpa" Hiser's Obituary
Niantic – Harold Leon Hiser, affectionately known to everyone as “Grandpa”, 79, of Niantic, passed away on Wednesday, April 28, 2021, in his home surrounded by his loving family and amazing support system.
Harold was born on November 7, 1941, in Decatur, IL, the son of Melvin V. and Bonnie Thelma (Pope) Hiser. An Army veteran, Harold worked at Caterpillar for 32 years before retiring in 1998. After retiring he worked for many farmers in the area. Lastly, Harold was working for Ed Reedy in Lovington. Harold was a volunteer fireman for the Argenta Fire Department for 29 years and Niantic Fire Department for the last 12 years. Harold was a member of Advancing The Troops, former member of the Moose Lodge, and past bus driver for Team Thrust Ministries in Atlanta, IL. He married Sandra Kay Bolin on June 12, 1965, in Clinton, IL.
Harold is survived by his wife, Sandy of Niantic; children: Angela Ward of Oreana, Randy (April) Hiser of Niantic, Tammy (Mike) West of Cerro Gordo, and Stacy Evans of OR; twenty grandchildren and eighteen great grandchildren; sister Dorothy Wheeler of Argenta; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and two sisters.
Visitation will be Sunday, May 2, 2021, from 5 pm until 7 pm at the Moran & Goebel Funeral Home. Funeral service to celebrate Harold’s life will be 11 am, Monday, May 3, 2021, in the funeral home. Burial will follow in Friends Creek Cemetery, Argenta, IL. Memorials may be made to the Niantic Fire Department or the family. IDPH and CDC guidelines will be followed. Masks are required.
