Harold L. McCool's Obituary
Harold L. McCool 81 of Decatur died Wednesday January 23, 2008 in Decatur Memorial Hospital.
Graveside services and burial will be 11:00 Monday January 28, 2008 in Lester Barnett Cemetery with Pastor Darren Morrow officiating.
Harold was born on April 16, 1926 in Macon, IL the son of Lester and Mary Etta Barnett McCool. He was a civilian employee for the Navy at the Macon Arms Plant where he became a Navy Certified Welder. He went to work for Caterpillar when the plant opened, and was known for years as 'Mac' McCool. He was a welder and inspector, and retired after 35 years of service. Many Caterpillar employees may remember his 1 ton blue welding truck with large boom and big Lincoln welder on the back parked in the front row close to building B.
Harold was a farmer and farmed the family-owned land from the 40's to the 60's. He had his own commercial welding business at his home for 40 years. He welded for many local industries, railroad, and individuals. He had a love for all animals, and raised several dogs and farm animals such as chickens, ducks, goats, and a pony. Harold married Barbara Montgomery on August 4, 1947 in Champaign, IL.
Surviving are his wife, children, Darrell McCool and wife Jackie of Ozark, MO; Allan McCool of Decatur; LeeAnn Merlie and husband Gary of Bethany; Brian McCool of Decatur; brother, Bernard McCool of Sarasota, FL; and eight grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
