Harold Oyler's Obituary
Harold Eugene Oyler, 95, of Decatur passed away on Friday, October 12, 2012 in Decatur Memorial Hospital.
Harold was born on July 9, 1917 in Decatur the son of Ora and Lena (Mills) Oyler. He served his country proudly in the U.S. Army Air Corps during WWII as a radar technician stationed in the Aleutian Islands in Alaska. Before the war he worked with the Civil Conservation Corps. He worked at A. E. Staley's Manufacturing, Lincoln Labs, owned a pizza shop in New Mexico, and retired from the Decatur Country Club. He was a member of Ss. James and Patrick Parish, and the American Legion Castle William Post 105. In his younger years he enjoyed ceramics, fishing, hunting sailing, and golf. He was an avid St. Louis Cardinal fan. He married Rose Romano on June 23, 1941 in Decatur. She preceded him in death on March 18, 2004.
Surviving are his daughter, Antoinette 'Toni' Munn (Dean) of Springfield; grandchildren, Dean Munn II (Liz) of Indianapolis, IN; Mike Munn (Kim) of Cape Coral, FL; Dr. Eric Munn (Nicole) of Naperville; great-grandchildren, Michelle Lay, Jacquie Munn, Marisa Tank, Andrew Tank, Erica Munn, Annaliese Munn, and Zoe Munn; great-great-grandchildren, Kate and Caleb Lay brother, Don Oyler of Decatur; sisters-in-law, Angeline Barr(Dewey), Marie Potrafka, Fran Richison; brothers-in-law, Paul Romano, Jim Romano (Barb), Benny Romano (Betty); and numerous nieces and nephews..
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, granddaughter, Ann Tank, four brothers, Jerry, Jack, Everett, and Dick, four sisters, Janice, Cora Lee, Vivian, and Frances.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 AM Monday, October 15, 2012 in St. Patrick Catholic Church with Rev. John Burnette as Celebrant. Visitation will be one hour prior to service in the church. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery with military rites conducted by the Macon County Honor Guard. Memorials are suggested to The Rose Romano-Oyler Scholarship fund for St Patrick School through the Community Foundation or Cancer Care Specialists of Central Illinois.
