HARRY G. COONEY's Obituary
Harry G. Cooney, 87 of Decatur passed away on Sunday May 25, 2003 at his residence. J.J. Moran and Sons Funeral Home is in-charge of arrangements.
Services for Harry will be 7:30 p.m. Wednesday May 28, 2003 in St. Thomas Catholic Church with visitation from 6:00 p.m. till service time. With an honor guard of the Knights of Columbus. Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. in Calvary Cemetery with Military Rites Conducted by the Macon County Honor Guard on Thursday May 29, 2003. Memorials may be made to the building fund of Saint Theresea High School.
Harry was born on Febraury 05, 1916 in Decatur to Harry and May J. Holland Cooney. He was a member of the Rev. Jeremiah J. Murphy Assembly 4th Degree Knights of Columbus and Council # 577 Knights of Columbus. He served his country in the Army during World War II. He was a boy scout master for many years. He was a member of Saint Thomas Catholic Church of Decatur. He was a traveling salesman for Campbell Soup company for many years; also was owner and operator of Premio Pizza here in Decatur for a number of years; during the 1950’s-60’s he owned and operatored the Cooney Circle Drive In on North Main street ”where we made many lifelong friends”;also during this time he owned and operatored the Dairy Twirl on East Eldorado. He married Mary Emily Auth in Ivedales, Illinois on September 20, 1938.
Survivors include his wife of 64 years; son, Michael and wife Jill of Decatur; daughter, Anne Cooney of Tinley Park, IL.; grandchildren Shane and Erin Cooney of Decatur, and Ryan and his wife Jennifer Cooney Ryan is serving his country in the US Coast Guard deployed in Enduring Freedom of Moorhead City, North Carolina.
Harry was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and one son, Lt. Thomas J. Cooney who was killed in Vietnam 1968.
