Harvey C. Dozier Sr's Obituary
Harvey Charles Dozier, Sr., 87, of Decatur, peacefully passed away Wednesday, November 4, 2020 at St. Mary’s Hospital.
Harvey was born August 28, 1933 in Tiptonville, Tennessee and also received his education there. On September 18, 1955, he married the love of his life, Shirley Vangie Ward.
He joined the Church of Christ, he later joined the New Publican Primitive Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon under the Pastorship of his brother-in-law Elder Irving Ward.
He worked for the state and was employed at the State Capital Building. Harvey enjoyed listening to gospel quartet music, baseball games, and the Holy Bible on tape. He was often complimented on his dress, which would usually include a suit with matching accessories and a hat. He enjoyed his family and typically had funny nicknames for all of his grandchildren.
He leaves to cherish his fond memories, his loving wife, Shirley who he had been married to for 65 years, his children Charles (Christine) Matthews, Alice Wadlington, Harvey (Lisa) Dozier, Lloyd (Diona) Dozier, John Dozier, Lowdoise Dozier, and stepchildren, Billy and Judy Matthews. He also leaves a host of grandchildren, great grand-children, and great-great grandchildren. Furthermore, he leaves a dear friend, Bro Thomas Newbern, sister-in-law Savanah Dozier, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Harvey Dozier Sr was proceeded in death by his only brother Thomas Dozier Sr. his loving daughters, Sandra V. Dozier and Kathy Matthews Woodland. He was likewise proceeded in death by his parents Lowdoise and Bertha Dozier, 1 grandchild and 1 great-grandchild.
The Dozier family would like to thank the staff of the Intensive Care Unit at St Mary’s Hospital as well as the Infusion Nursing Staff, Dr Dana Ray, Dr Bommarito, Dr.Brandes and Dr Kola. They would also like to sincerely thank everyone for their prayers and support during this difficult time. May God Bless you all.
Homegoing services to celebrate Harvey’s life will be at 12 Noon on Friday at Church of the Living God, Temple 3, Decatur. Visitation will be held for 2 hours prior to at the Church. Harvey will be laid to rest in Greenwood Cemetery in Decatur.
