Helen Virginia Marten's Obituary
Decatur-Helen Virginia Marten, 93, of Decatur, passed away at 1:54 a.m. Wednesday, October 26, 2011 at her home with her family by her side.
Mass of Christian Burial to Celebrate Helen’s life will be 10 a.m. Monday, October 31, 2011 at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, 2160 N. Edward St., with Father Rick Weltin, Celebrant. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the mass at the church. Interment will be 2 p.m. Monday, October 31, 2011 at Camp Butler National Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Oasis Drop in Health Center, 243 W Cerro Gordo St, Decatur, Illinois 62522.
Helen was born October 27, 1917 in Dubuque, Iowa, the daughter of John and Mary Kane. She was raised in Rockford and graduated from Sienna Heights College in Michigan. She was a devoted wife and mother that cherished time with family and friends. She was a long time faithful member of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church. She married Bernard Joseph Marten of Farmersville June 27, 1950 in Rockford. He preceded her in death October 23, 2009.
She leaves behind her children Mary Barbara Marten of Decatur, Richard William Marten and wife Jill of Woodridge, James Patrick Marten and wife Valerie of Bellingham, Washington, Dennis Michael Marten of Independence, Missouri, Elizabeth Ann Nation of Decatur, and Robert Joseph Marten of Fairview Heights, grandchildren Kevin, Katie, Kirby, Glindon, Tracey, Jessica, Ryan, Jackie, Tyler, and Courtney, great-grandchildren Deven, Alexes, Taylor, and Alli.
She was reunited in Heaven with her parents and husband.
