Henry Carl Bork's Obituary
Henry Carl Bork Hank passed away Saturday, November 20, 2010 at St. Joseph Home, Springfield, IL.
Henry was born November 16, 1916 in Decatur, the son of Edward W. and Augusta A. Hendrian Bork. He graduated from Decatur High School in 1934. He was a veteran of World War II where he served in the U.S. Navy aboard the U.S.S. Montaux. He married Kathryn E. Pfjle on May 1, 1938 in St. Charles, MO.
Hank started his career at the Decatur Post Office during his senior year of high school as a swing carrier. He continued working for the post office as a letter carrier He also served as the treasurer of the Decatur Postal Credit Union for many years. All total he worked 63 years for the Decatur Post Office. He was a member of the local and National Letter Carriers Association, Treasurer of N.A.R.F.E., on the board of the Postal Credit Union and the Ralph G. Long Chapter of Credit Unions. Hank was an avid golfer, a die-hard Cub fan and a Chicago Bear fan.
He is survived by his wife, Kathryn of 72 1/2 years, his children, Sandra Jud Cameron of Sullivan; Sharon Mitchell of Kirkwood MO; Shirly Joe Unekis of Manhattan KS; Sallee Stan Butzow of Divernon; Sheryl Jim Spears of Auburn, Terry Bork of Dallas TX; and Kent Saundra Bork of Garland, TX; He is also survived by one sister, Mildred Hoadley of Decatur. Sixteen grandchildren and twenty-three great grandchildren survive their grandpa.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, four brothers, one son, Lynn, and one great grandson.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 AM Wednesday, November 24, 2010 in Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church with Rev Rick Weltin as Celebrant. Visitation will be held from 9 to 11 AM at the church. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery with military rites conducted by the Macon County Honor Guard. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials to St. Joseph’s Home, Springfield, IL, Springfield Memorial Hospital Hospice Program, or Our Lady of Lourdes Church.
