Hildred Meyer O'Brien's Obituary
Hildred Meyer O'Brien, 83, of Decatur, died Thursday, May 21, 2009 in Decatur.
Hildred was born October 19, 1925 and raised in rural Dieterich, Illinois the daughter of Edward B. and Stella E. Foster Meyer. A member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, Hildred was a small music studio business owner and taught guitar and accordion lessons to hundreds of children and adults in the Decatur and Mattoon areas over her 30 plus year career. She carried the love of farm life, home style cooking and nature with her all her life. Hildred married William "Bill" James O'Brien June 16, 1976 in Decatur and he preceded her in death May 1, 1999.
Surviving are her children: Sondra Johns Larry Wooley of Decatur, Sharon and David Johns of Tampa, FL, Rebecca Bear and Ron Kosnik of Jackson, MI; nine grandchildren and five great grandchildren; sister, Farrell Meyer Hofsteder of Deerfield; many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and great-great nieces and nephews.
Hildred was preceded in death by her parents; husband, William James O'Brien; and sisters: Marilene Meyer Hofsteder and Margie Meyer Henderson.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 am, Tuesday, May 26, 2009 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, Rev. Richard Weltin celebrant. Visitation will be one hour prior to the mass. Interment will follow in Macon County Memorial Park.
The family of Hildred Meyer O'Brien is being served by the Moran & Goebel Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 2801 N. Monroe St. Decatur.
