Ivan "Doug" Williams' Obituary
Ivan “Doug” Williams, 87, of Mt. Zion, passed away peacefully on Tuesday July 29, 2025, at Mt. Zion Health and Rehab Center.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Tuesday, August 5, 2025, at Moran&Goebel Funeral Home. Funeral service will take place at 12:00 PM the following day, Wednesday, August 6, 2025, also at Moran&Goebel Funeral Home. Reverend Tina Parnell-Miller will officiate, with burial afterward at Point Pleasant Cemetery in Long Creek. The family requests casual attire.
Ivan “Doug” Williams was born on August 20, 1937, to Melvin and Mary (Perry) Williams.
He attended Decatur High School, graduating in 1955.
On May 5, 1957, he married Gloria Alumbaugh. They had two children, Jeffery and Penny.
In June of 1955, immediately after graduation, he was selected to start a 4-year apprenticeship as an electrician.
In June of 1959, he graduated from the apprenticeship and became a Journeyman Wireman in the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 146. In September of 1965, he took on a part time job as an instructor for the IBEW Apprenticeship School, which he held for 8 years. In October of 1976, he was elected Treasurer of IBEW Local 146, a post that he held for almost 23 years, until his retirement. In September of 1999, he retired from IBEW Local 146 with 44 years of service. He was a 70-year member of the IBEW.
While in high school, he worked part time as a pinsetter at The Bowl and The Eldorado Bowl. With being around the bowling alleys, he became hooked on the game and has bowled in many leagues ever since. In 1990, he was elected to the Board of Directors of the Decatur Bowling Association, and in 1993, He was elected President and served until 2001, at which time he was honored with becoming a Life Member/Past President. He was inducted into the Decatur Bowling Hall of Fame in 2004.
He participated in the winter skeet league at the Decatur Gun Club for several years.
He was a 32 Degree Mason, a member of Zohak Grotto. Masonic rites will be administered.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Gloria A Williams; parents, Melvin and Mary (Perry) Williams; in-laws, Clyde and Mildred (Keeling) Alumbaugh; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Richard “Red” Alumbaugh and Maureen Alumbaugh.
He is survived by his son, Jeffery and wife Maureen Williams; daughter, Penny Williams; granddaughters, Lauren Williams, Melissa and husband Jessie Woodard; great-granddaughters, Genevieve Ann Woodard and Sophia Elizabeth-Nicole Woodard; sister, Nancy and husband Bob Eichelberger; brother, Stephen and wife Kathy Williams; several nieces & nephews, great-nieces & nephews, and great-great-nieces & nephews.
The family would like to thank the staff at Mt. Zion Health and Rehab, especially Kesha, for the care Doug was given. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Theatre 7 of Decatur, 131 N Water St, Decatur, IL 62523.
