J. D. Hall's Obituary
J.D. Hall 83 of Decatur passed away at 12:45 pm Tuesday May 24, 2005 in Decatur Memorial Hospital.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11 am Friday May 27, 2005 in Saint Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, with the Very Rev. James O’shea as celebrant. Visitation will be Thursday evening from 6:30 – 8 pm in Moran & Goebel Funeral Home. Burial will be in Hammond Cemetery 3 pm Saturday May 28, 2005, where military rites will be conducted by the Macon County Honor Guard. Memorial may be given to Habitat for Humanity of Macon County. J.D. was born on January 14, 1922, in Shamrock, Oklahoma the son of David and Zanna McBride Hall. He served in the United States Army serving his country proudly during World War II in the Philippines. He worked as a lumber yard manager for many years for the Hammond Lumber Yard, the Atwood Lumber Yard, then finally retiring from Firestone Tire Manufacturing Company. He was a member of Saint Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church. He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren, he also enjoyed reading, making things for his family out of wood. He was one of the founding members of the Boy Scout’s of Hammond, he served on the town council in Hammond, he was past president of the Hammond American Legion, he was a member of the Firestone Retirees Group. He married Velma Louise Beckwith in Saint Louis, Missouri on May 4, 1946, she survives.
Also surviving include his two daughters, Sherri Crawford and husband Lewis of Concord, N.C. and Trudy Sallie and husband George of Decatur; his grandchildren, Megan and Lee Paul of Charlotte, N.C., Chase Crawford of Concord, N.C., Heather and husband George Brockel of Decatur, Jamie Sallie, Angel Sallie and Ric Sallie all of Decatur and Jacob Sallie of Springfield, sisters; Eileen English of Newport News, VA and Jean Phelps of West Plains, MO. and brothers, Lee and Ray Hall of West Plains, MO. Many nieces and nephews also survive.
J.D. was preceded in death by his parents, and 6 brothers and sisters.
The family of J.D. would like to Thank the staff at Gambro Dialysis, the staff of 4th floor at Decatur Memorial Hospital, especially Tracy, Renee and Cheryl, also would like to thank Drs. McCormack, Hasnain, Raycraft for all the special love and compassion shown to him during his illness.
