J. Michael Jenkins' Obituary
J. Michael Jenkins, 62, of Decatur, died at Wednesday, September 21, 2011 in his home.
Michael was born December 23, 1948 in Louisville, KY, son of Samuel P. and Patricia Gnau Jenkins, Sr. Michael grew up in Charleston and served as a priest for the Springfield Diocese for many years serving at: St. Mary Church as well as co-chaplain at Quincy Notre Dame High School in Quincy; Sacred Heart, Villa Grove; St. Michael, Hume; St. Thomas Aquinas, Brocton; Youth Minister at St. Teresa High School and Chaplain at the Ursuline Convent, Decatur; St. Paul, Highland; Ss. Peter and Paul, Collinsville; St. Mary, Pittsfield; Holy Redeemer, Barry and the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, Springfield. He attended St. Thomas Catholic Church in Decatur and worked in the custodial department at Millikin University.
He is survived by his mother, Patricia and sister, Judy Ankrom of Decatur; brothers: Samuel P. Karen Jenkins of VA, Neil Kim Jenkins of Aurora, David Jenkins of Naperville and Jeffrey Connie Jenkins of Champaign; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Michael was preceded in death by his father, Samuel P. Jenkins.
The family will receive friends Sunday, September 25, 2011 from 3 to 5 p.m. in the Moran & Goebel Funeral Home; vigil prayer service will be at 2:30 p.m. Concelebrated Mass of Christian Burial Celebrating his life will be 11 a.m. Monday, September 26, 2011 in St. Thomas The Apostle Catholic Church, 2160 N. Edward St., Decatur, IL 62526. Burial will follow in Roselawn Cemetery, Charleston. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to: St. Meinrad Archabbey, 200 Hill Dr., St. Meinrad, IN, 47577.
He was a beloved and faithful son and brother and will be greatly missed.
