Jack L. Hopkins' Obituary
Jack Lee Hopkins, 71, of Maroa RAN into the arms of Jesus around 6:15 PM Tuesday, February 24, 2015 in McKinley Court Nursing Home.
Jack was born on April 11, 1943 in Decatur, IL the son of John D. and Dorothy H. (Steinheimer) Hopkins. He graduated from Blue Mound/Boody High School on 1961. He attended Millikin University in 1962. Jack enlisted in the United States Navy in 1962-1966. He was Honor Man of his Basic Training Company and received the Vietnam Service Medal. He married DeAnne Miller on March 17, 1968. They had three sons.
Jack farmed in rural Decatur on his family farm. He served on the Blue Mound/Boody School Board. He was a member of Summit Lodge #431 A.F. & A.M. and the Scottish Rite Valley of Springfield. He worked for A.E. Staley Manufacturing Company, Sloan’s Implement Company and Firestone. He attended Zion Chapel United Methodist Church and Maranatha Assembly of God. In his spare time Jack enjoyed cooking, watching western’s, and making his loved ones laugh.
On October 26, 1991 Jack was involved in a tragic car accident that took the life of his beloved mother Dorothy and left him paralyzed. Jack always showed tremendous courage and kept his upbeat personality. He was truly an inspiration to many.
He leaves behind his loving wife, DeAnne; sons, John D. Hopkins (Tami) of Maroa; Jeffrey E. Hopkins (Dana) of Reno, NV; Jared C. Hopkins of Maroa; and six grandchildren, Madison, Samuel, Wyatt, Ella, Wade and Waylon Jack.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Jack’s family would like to thank the staff at DMH, St. Mary’s Hospital, McKinley Court, Hickory Point Christian Village, Dr. D. Patel, Dr. Minnaganti, Dr. Sherwood, Dr. Tarter, Dr. Dekoj, and especially Dr. Atluri who provided Jack with just the right sense of humor and outstanding care.
Funeral service to celebrate Jack’s life will be 12 Noon Saturday in Zion Chapel United Methodist Church. Visitation will be 6-8 PM Friday in Moran & Goebel Funeral Home. Burial will be in Zion Cemetery in Boody with military rites conducted by Macon County Honor Guard. Memorials are suggested to the Shriner’s Children Hospital, Zion Chapel United Methodist Church or Maranatha Assembly of God.
