James A Darnell's Obituary
James A. Darnell, 94, of Sullivan, IL, formerly of Blue Mound, IL, passed away October 5, 2023, at Vonderlieth Living Center, Mt. Pulaski, IL.
Jim was born March 3, 1929, in Mt Auburn, IL, the son of George and Wanda (Sefried) Darnell. He married his first spouse, Delores Collenberger in 1950. She passed away in 1956. He married Virginia Huesman on March 2, 1957, in Blue Mound, IL.
Jim was a veteran of the US Army, serving during the Korean War.
Jim owned and operated J and H Hardware and Television Repair. He was a member of the Methodist Church of Sullivan, IL and the American Legion Post 68, Sullivan, IL and served with the American Legion Funeral Honors Team.
He was an avid artist and enjoyed painting pictures. He also enjoyed fishing, hunting and loved gardening. One of his greatest loves was spending time with his family.
Surviving are his wife, Virginia; children, Diane Brown (Michael) of Maroa, IL, David Darnell (Flora) of Williamsville, IL, Denise Sarna (Ken) of Decatur, IL, Dawn Cuttill (Michael) of Ridge Spring, SC, Duane Darnell (Lynette) of Plainfield, IL; grandchildren, Julie Schmidgall, Jennifer Power, Mallory Darnell, Jeremy Sarna, Weston Cuttill, Maggie Ray, Connor Darnell, Ashley Darnell, Evan Darnell, Tiffany Cuttill; great grandchildren, Mason, Katie, Kenna, Nick, Grace, Bash, Gavin, Hunter, Hannah, Cassiday, Angel, and Ava, and several nieces and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Delores; sister, Dorothy Brown, and grandson, Anthony Cuttill.
Celebration of Life will be held 10:00 AM – 11:00 AM, Monday, October 23, 2023, followed with military funeral honors, at Moran and Goebel Funeral Home. Private family graveside service will be at Moultrie County Memorial Park, Sullivan, IL.
Memorials can be made to American Legion Post 68.
