James A. Getzendanner's Obituary
James A. “Jim” Getzendanner, 87, of Forsyth, died Monday, June 9, 2008 in his home.
Jim was born October 21, 1920, in Kankakee, the son of William M. and Mary R. Donahue Getzendanner. A U.S. Army Air Corp’s Veteran of WWII, Jim worked as an executive at Sears Roebuck & Co. before retiring in 1975. After he retired from Sears, Jim and his wife Imogene owned and operated LaGrange Schwinn Cyclery in LaGrange, IL for eight years. He attended the Catholic Church and was a member of the Elks Lodge and Rotary. Jim married Imogene L. Fulton on June 18, 1950 in Springfield and she preceded him in death on July 20, 2007.
He is survived by his daughters: Candace Michael Poe and Karen Matthew Yepsen of Decatur; son, Kevin Marlene Getzendanner of Atlanta, GA; sister, Edna Chinski of Bourbonnais; grandchildren: Matthew, Megan and Molly Poe, Andy Getzendanner, Sarah and Will Yepsen; great grandsons: Ryan and Alexander Poe; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; brothers: William and Vincent; sisters: Helene, Virginia and Dorothy.
Memorial Mass of the Resurrection will be 2 pm, Friday, June 13, 2008 in St. James Catholic Church, Rev. Jeff Grant celebrant. Private burial will take place in Fairlawn Cemetery. Memorial gifts may be given to the American Cancer Society.
The family of James A. Getzendanner is being served by the Moran & Goebel Funeral Home, 2801 N. Monroe St. Decatur.
