James Hoback's Obituary
James R. Hoback, Jr. 72, of Decatur, went to be with his Lord on February 2, 2013, in his home.
Jim was born on May 29, 1940. He was the son of James R. Hoback, Sr. and Rita L. Hoback. He married Joyce Ann Jordan on July 25, 1959, and they shared 53 wonderful years together. They were blessed with two children, Julie Ann Young and James R. Hoback, III. He finished drywall in Decatur and surrounding area and retired from Decatur Foundry with years of faithful service. He attended First Christian Church in Decatur. At age 20 he came to love Jesus while attending the First Southern Baptist Church in Mattoon, IL. His biggest passion was striving to live a Christ centered life by spending many hours in prayer, reading his Bible, and applying it daily. Jim's biggest joy in life was filling his house with joy and laughter with his wife and family close by. He also enjoyed collecting Elvis memorabilia and listening to traditional country music. He was an avid St. Louis Cardinal fan and enjoyed his trips to spring training.
He is survived by his wife, Joyce, daughter, Julie and husband Terry Young of Long Creek; son, Jim and wife Lori Hoback of Forsyth; grandchildren; Alyssa Merritt and husband Chris, Jobeth Young, Henry Young, Savanna Hoback, Luke Hoback, and Colton Hoback; great-grandsons, Caden and Austin Merritt; close family, Jane and Gene Stutzman of St. Petersburg, FL; and Joe and Vikie Jordan of Mattoon; four nieces, Janice Austin, Rebecca Anderson, Debbie Wilhelm, and Marla Leasher.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters, Francis Moberly, and Betty Shorter, and her husband, Bill, in laws, Betty and Howard Jordan, Nephew, Don Moberly, and brother-in-law, Robert Jordan.
The pallbearers will be Gene Stutzman, Terry Young, Jim Hoback, Chris Merritt, Henry Young, Luke Hoback and honorary pallbearer, Colton Hoback.
He was an exceptional model of love, patience, and kindness, as well as a devout husband, caring father and grandfather, and loyal friend. He will be loved and missed by all. 'You're the best' Pops.
Funeral Service celebrating Jim's life will be 10 AM Wednesday, February 6, 2013 in Moran & Goebel Funeral Home with Gary Bryan officiating. Visitation will be 5 ' 8 PM Tuesday and 9 ' 10 AM Wednesday in the funeral home. Burial will be 1 PM Wednesday in Dodge Grove Cemetery, Mattoon, IL. Memorials are suggested to Good Samaritan.
