James Albert "Jim" Hayes' Obituary
James Albert ”Jim” Hayes, 80 of Decatur, entered into eternal life on Wednesday January 15, 2003 in Decatur.
Services celebrating his life will be 10 A.M. Saturday January 18, 2003 in J. J. Moran & Sons Funeral Home. Visitation will be form 5 until 7 P.M. Friday. Burial will be in Macon County Memorial Park with military rites conducted by the Macon County Honor Guard. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Macon County Animal Shelter.
Jim was born in Mt. Vernon on January 17, 1922 the son of William Harrison and Iva Monday Hayes. He worked as a supervisor at A.E. Staley Manufacturing Co. for 34 years retiring in 1981. Jim attended the Methodist Church all of his life. Most recently he attended Grace United Methodist Church. He proudly served his country in the Army 3rd Armored Division during WWII. While in the service he was detained as a P.O.W. and he received the purple heart with oak leaf cluster. He was a member of the VFW Post # 99, DAV Chapter # 17, Staley Retiree Club, 32nd Degree Mason member of Stephen Decatur Lodge #979, Ansar Shrine, Decatur Shrine Club and Scottish Rite Valley of Springfield. Jim loved to golf and enjoyed playing all of the courses in and around Decatur. Jim married Erma Oliver on June 09, 1951 in Decatur and she survives.
Also surviving are a sister, Lorene Werve of Decatur and brother, Clyde Hayes Roszella of Bonnie, IL. Many nieces, and nephews.
His parents, two brothers, and one sister preceded him in death.
