James F. "Jimmy" Dougherty's Obituary
Decatur – James F. “Jimmy” Dougherty, 73, of Decatur, passed away Tuesday, June 4, 2019.
Jimmy was born December 9, 1945 in Decatur, the son of John R. and Wilma Kathryn (Buzan) Dougherty. Jim worked as an attendant alongside his brothers Dave and Jack at Dougherty’s Super Service later known as D&D Shell for 40 plus years. He was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church where he served as an usher for many years, Very Rev. Jeremiah J. Murphy Assembly #211, Knights of Columbus Darrell W. Beck Council #577 and an avid St. Louis Cardinal Fan.
Jimmy was preceded in death by his parents; sister Marian “Kay”; brother Dave and sister-in-law Karen.
Survivors include his brother, John P. “Jack” (Sylvia) Dougherty, Sr. of Decatur; sister-in-law, Joan Dougherty of Decatur; 7 nieces and nephews, 13 great nieces and nephews, 9 great-great nieces and nephews and many friends.
A very generous person during his life Jimmy gave even in death being a tissue donor for the Gift of Hope.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 12 pm Friday, June 7, 2019 at the Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church; visitation will begin at 10:30 until a presentation by the Knights of Columbus at 11:45 am. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Decatur, IL. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church or Heart or Lung Association.
