James "Jim" Joseph Burtschi's Obituary
James “Jim” Joseph Burtschi, 74, of Decatur passed away peacefully on Friday, April 21, 2017 in his home. Jim was born on September 28, 1942 in Decatur, IL the son of Joseph Daniel and Margaret Eloise (Thorpe) Burtschi. He was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, member of the Knights of Columbus, and member and officer of Golden K Kiwanis. He served his country proudly in the U.S. Army. He married Anita Nommesch on August 26, 1967 in Chicago, IL. Surviving are his wife, Anita; sons, Andrew Burtschi (Staci) of Colorado Springs, CO; Daniel Burtschi (Michele)of Cary, IL; daughters, Amanda “Amy” Taylor (Jeff) of Decatur; Ellen Burtschi of Decatur; Karen Burtschi (fiancee Jake Kampen) of Normal; sister, Martha Cavanaugh (James) of Decatur; grandchildren Evan Burtschi, Adam Burtschi, Cameron Burtschi, Serena Burtschi, Brandon Burtschi, and Kaitlin Burtschi. He was preceded in death by his parents. Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated at 10 AM Wednesday, April 26, 2017 in Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church with Rev. Rick Weltin as Celebrant. Visitation will be 5-7 PM Tuesday with a 4:30 PM Prayer Vigil in Moran & Goebel Funeral Home. Burial will be in Boiling Springs Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Golden K or Julius L. Burtschi Scholarship Fund at St. Teresa High School. The family would like to thank Cancer Care Specialists of Central Illinois, DMH Hospice, and DMH Out Patient Care for all their care of Jim.
