James R. Mattchen's Obituary
James R. Mattchen, 89, of Decatur, passed away Wednesday, April 6, 2016, at St. Mary’s Hospital.
James was born February 4, 1927, in Decatur, IL son of Pete and Norine (Duncan) Mattchen. James worked for Illinois Power as a gas supply supervisor and later retired with over 37 years of service. He also served his country in the Navy, and was a proud veteran having served in both World War II and the Korean War. James was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church. He married Doris (Nalefski) in 1947 in Decatur, IL. They shared 68 wonderful years together. James enjoyed summers on his boat and winters in Florida, and most of all, spending time with family and friends.
James is survived by his wife, Doris of Decatur; son Michael Mattchen (Arlene) of St. Petersburg, FL, daughter Sharon Wingard (Clair) of Decatur, IL, daughter Janet Fulk (Barb) of Decatur, IL. Grandchildren: Liz Williams (Lee), Peter Mattchen (Jamie), Lindsey Wherley (Chris), Brandon Wingard (Ryan), Jamie Fulk, Julie Fulk and Jill Strong (Ryan). 13 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild.
Preceded in death by his parents, Pete and Norine, brother Paul Mattchen and sister Pat Vodde and great granddaughter Rylie Wherley.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 am, Monday April 11, 2016, at Holy Family Catholic Church, Very Rev. Joseph M. Molloy, V.F., celebrant; visitation will be one hour prior at the church. Burial will take place at Graceland Cemetery with military rites conducted by the Macon County Honor Guard. Memorial donations are suggested to: Holy Family Church Decatur IL.
