James M. Parker's Obituary
James M. Parker, 86, of Forsyth, IL, passed away peacefully September 25, 2018 at Decatur Memorial Hospital.
Jim was born, October 21, 1931 in Decatur, IL, the son of, Albert Elmo and Manona (Pleasant) Parker.
Jim was a retired veteran of the US Army and honorably served in the Korean and Vietnam War. He served at the rank of Chief Warrant Officer 3 as a pilot. He flew 6 different types of helicopters and 3 types of airplanes.
He was a 6 time, Past Commander and Life Member of American Legion, Post 105 and Life Member of VFW Post 99. He served as 19th District Commander with the American Legion. He was a member of Vietnam Helicopter Pilot Association.
James was the co-founder of the Macon County Honor Guard and was proud to dedicate many years of service to fallen comrades in arms. He had received honors and recognition from Jesse White, Rodney Davis, and Senator Barack Obama, for his dedication of military service and continued service to fellow veterans. He later retired from Decatur Memorial Hospital and Wagner Casting.
During his leisure, Jim was an avid Cubs fan.
Surviving are his children, Donna Kay Mines (William) of South Riding, VA, David Parker (Robyn); brother, John Parker (Joanne) of Rochester, IL; grandchildren, Alexandria Mitchell (Taber), William Mines III (Adri), Morgan Mines; great-grandchildren, Kadyn Parker, Blake Mitchell, Grace Mines and William Mines IV.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and siblings, Harold, Dwight, Marjorie and Joanne.
Funeral service will be held 10:00 AM Saturday, September 29, 2018 at Moran and Goebel Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 5 – 7 PM Friday, September 28, 2018 at Moran and Goebel Funeral Home. Burial will be at Traughber Cemetery.
Memorials: Macon County Honor Guard or American Legion.
