James Roy Pearson's Obituary
James Roy Pearson Jr., 94, of Danville, IL passed away on Sunday, January 4, 2015 in Presence United Samaritan Hospital in Danville.
Roy was born on November 30, 1920 in Watseka, IL the son of James R. Pearson Sr. and Lela (Clem) Pearson. He graduated from Georgetown High School in 1939. He worked as a purchasing agent for various Danville businesses. He married Alberta E. Scarce on August 10, 1941. She preceded him in death on September 24, 1998.
Roy served his country proudly in the U.S. Navy entering in late 1943. He served aboard the Battleship U.S.S. Massachusetts BB59 in World War II. The ship was about 10 miles out of Tokyo Bay, Japan when the peace treaty was signed on September 2, 1945. He was given the following medals: American Campaign Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal, World War II Victory Medal with Asia Clasp, Philippine Liberation Ribbon, Philippine Republic Presidential Unit Citation, and seven Battle Stars.
Surviving are special friends, Wayne and Linda Wilson, Amy Wilson, Brad Wilson his sons Jaren and Camdyn, Roy and Susie Huxold, and Scott Cunningham.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and son Philip Allen Pearson who died on March 15, 2005.
Memorial Service to celebrate Roy’s life will be 12 Noon, Tuesday, January 13, 2015 in the Danville VA Chapel with Military honors conducted by the Danville American Legion. Private burial will be in the Danville National Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to Danville American Legion.
