James Dean "J.D." Shinall's Obituary
James Dean “J.D.” Shinall, 87, of Decatur, IL, went to be with his Lord and Savior at 2:02 P.M. on Saturday (08-02-2025) at St. John’s Hospital Springfield, Il.
J.D. was born on April 4, 1938, in Fredonia, KY, the son of Jesse James Shinall and Mary Elizabeth (Scott) Shinall. He married Sharon Ann Milligan on May 9, 1986, in Decatur, IL
J.D. served his country in the United States Army. He was a retiree from A.E. Staley's, where he worked for most of his adult life. J.D. also enjoyed hunting deer, fishing, playing cards and long rides on his motorcycle. He also had a love and a special place in his heart for animals.
He is survived by his wife Sharon of 39 years of marriage; daughter Tami Wittenauer (Tim) of Decatur, IL; grandson Trent Wittenauer (Jordan) of Decatur, IL; great-grandchildren Aurora and Maeve; brother Ronnie Shinall of Marion, KY; and several nieces, nephews and cousins in Kentucky.
J.D. was preceded in death by his parents.
A visitation will be held from 10:00 A.M. until 12:00 P.M. on Saturday (08-09-2025) at St. Thomas the Apostle Church 2160 N. Edward St. Decatur, IL. 62526. The Funeral Mass will be held at 12:00 P.M. Saturday (08-09-2025) at St. Thomas the Apostle Church Decatur, IL. The burial will be at Graceland Cemetery following the funeral mass.
Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or the Macon County Animal Shelter.
