James Raymond Smith's Obituary
James Raymond “Jim” Smith, 86, of Decatur, died Thursday, February 21, 2008 at Fair Havens Christian Home.
Jim was born January 14, 1922, in Decatur, the son of Marion Riley and Anna Sybil Ford Smith. A U.S. Army Veteran of World War II, he was a supervisor at Caterpillar until his retirement in 1980. Jim was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church, Moose, Elks, and VFW. An avid fisherman, “Iron Man Smith” was co-captain of his high school football team and loved to ballroom dance with his wife. He raised many animals and was well known for his tropical fish. Jim married Norma J. Doty November 2, 1946 in Decatur.
He is survived by his wife, Norma; daughters: Marilyn Scott Davis, and Nancy Hegarty; sons: James Greg Cindy Smith and Michael J. Smith all of Decatur; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; niece, Sybil Jim Jackson of Decatur; nephew, Charles Phyllis Michels of Warrensburg, along with several other nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, three sisters, and son-in-law David Hegarty.
Funeral service will be 2 pm Monday, February 25, 2008 at the Moran & Goebel Funeral Home with visitation one hour before the service.
