James Paul Somers' Obituary
James Paul Somers, 61, of Decatur, passed away Monday, February 10, 2020, in his home.
James was born October 5, 1958, in Decatur, IL to James Peter and Jo Anne (Thompson) Somers. He was a roofer for many years. He loved the outdoors and animals.
He served honorably in the United States Marine Corps. Enlisted in 1981 and honorably discharged in 1988.
Duty Stations: Okinawa, Japan - Marine Corps Base, Twentynine Palms, California - Marine Corps Air Station Yuma, Arizona
While in the Marine Corps, he met his wife Maria, mother of his daughter, Taryn. Maria also served honorably in the United States Marine Corps.
He is survived by his daughter, Taryn (Jason) Blackburn; his special niece, Tiffany Shelley and nephew, Michael Tucker, Sr; his three great-nephews, Preston Shelley, Michael Tucker, Jr. and KaRon Shelley; his great-niece, Taylor Tucker; his three grand-dogs, Janis, Lenny and Zooey; and his two grand-horses, Bruce and Rikki.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Kenneth Wayne Somers and one sister, Barbara Woodard.
