Jane C. Higgins, 90, of Decatur passed away on Friday, August 8, 2014 in Kirby Hospital in Monticello. Jane was born on February 2, 1924 in Cerro Gordo, IL the daughter of Sidney and Rena (Smith) Shaw. She was a member of Ss. Jame Read Obituary
Our sympathy to all of the Higgins children and extended family. Dad still keeps Patty and I updated on all the happenings in Decatur, and he was truly saddened to hear of Jane's passing. Jane (and Jack all the family) were such kind souls to our family and to our parents-we are grateful for that. Jane was an amazing woman and my neighbor! She was so self reliant, she mowed her own yard until she was 86 or 87! I miss her very much and will never forget our many conversations. She told me that her father was a barber and shared a picture of her as a young girl hooked up to the first permanent wave machine in his shop! It was quite a contraption with wires attached all over her head and she was looking pretty pleased!She was a great woman.She will be missed.

What wonderful memories I have of this women. Tough when needed, kind when needed. I can't think of my childhood home with out thinking or Mrs. Higgins. Neighborhoods we grew up in are long gone, but the life lessons we learned, the love in our heart and respect from community is not.My heart aches that I cannot attend the service due to a prior commitment.
