Janet K. Fair's Obituary
Janet K. Fair of Decatur passed away peacefully surrounded by the love of her children, on May 19th, 2025.
A celebration of her life will be held at 2:00 pm on Monday, June 2nd, 2025, at Moran & Goebel Funeral Home, 2801 N. Monroe St. Decatur, IL 62526.
Janet was born on August 5th, 1965, on the Fort Jackson Army Base in Columbia, SC. Her twin sister and best friend Jessica was born in the surrounding moments. Born to Jane (Shelton) Fair and William Fair. Janet was raised in Illinois by her mother and D.L. (Chappie) Chapman.
Janet attended Roosevelt Junior High and MacArthur Hight School in Decatur. Around age 19, Janet met the man who would become the father of her children, Dan Shafer. A few years later, Janet became a mother to her first child, daughter Abby. Soon after followed her sons, Colin and Matthew.
Years later she met her partner Neil Salmons, whom she spent the rest of her life with.
Janet is survived and lovingly remembered by brother Ken Fair of Washington State, brother David and wife Barb Chapman of Decatur, longtime partner Neil Salmons of Decatur, children Abby and wife Kaley Lohse of Decatur, Colin Fair of Decatur, Matthew Fair of Decatur, and grandchildren Victoria Fair and Quinn Hawn. Along with many other family members connected by blood and bond.
Janet is proceeded in death by her parents Jane and Chappie Chapman and twin sister Jessica Coins (Fair).
Janet always had a free spirit and a desire to live life on her terms. Even when her body grew sick, her spirit remained incredibly strong. Her laugh, energy, and presence will always be missed.
