Janice Taylor's Obituary
Janice Taylor (affectionately known as ‘Punkin’), 76, transitioned into eternity at 6:00 p.m. on Monday, January 13, 2025.
She was born on March 8, 1948, in Brownsville, TN, to the union of the late J.D. Taylor and Jannette Covington Taylor. She attended Carver High School in Brownsville before migrating to Decatur, IL, with her family in 1965. She graduated from Stephen Decatur High School in 1967. She remained very proud of her hometown school and enjoyed attending her Carver High School reunions until her health declined and prevented the travel.
Janice accepted Christ at an early age and was a faithful member of Miracle Temple Church of God in Christ. Throughout her life, she was employed at Lincoln Correctional Center, Hucks, ADM Hydroponics, Taylor Pharmaceutical, and Family Dollar.
She loved to spend time reading and listening to Motown music. Janice also enjoyed watching old movies and westerns, in particular The Lone Ranger. This is a love she shared and passed on to her only child, LaTonja.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by: sisters, Bobbie L. Thomas and Juanita Taylor; brother, Gillette Taylor; niece, Arlene Taylor; nephews, Anthywon Taylor, Donald Taylor, Adrian Muex, and Anthony Muex.
Those left to cherish her memory include: daughter, LaTonja Taylor Green; granddaughters, Breanna Taylor, Roniesha Green, and LaKayla Green; great-granchildren, Micah and Harley; sisters, Nannie Goforth and Hazel Muex of Decatur, and Virgie (Robert) Banks of Springfield; brothers, Hillard (Brenda) Taylor of Redford, MI, Jimmie (Rose) Taylor, Ricky (Marguerite) Taylor, and Ronnie Taylor, all of Decatur; as well as a host of Nieces and Nephews.
A memorial service to celebrate Janice’s life will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Friday, January 24, 2025, at Moran & Goebel Funeral Home. Visitation prior to service will begin at 11:00 a.m.
