Jean Theresa Connon's Obituary
Decatur – Jean Theresa Connon died early in the morning on March 17 at the age of 82 in Decatur, IL.
Jean was born on March 20, 1937, in Lafayette, IN, to Fred Hatke and Lucille Nevil-Hatke. She grew up in Lafayette and graduated from West Lafayette High School.
She then met the love of her life at Purdue University and married Edward Connon on September 14, 1957 at St. Boniface Catholic Church.
She then began a career in communications at Indiana Bell Telephone in Lafayette, IN. Jean later moved to Illinois and worked in the communications department at Decatur Memorial Hospital until she retired in 1998.
Throughout her life Jean was a devote Catholic and wonderful matriarch to her family. She was continuously passionate about cooking and providing help to those less fortunate. In particular, Jean was known for talking on the phone to friends from all the different chapters of her life. In the last chapter of her life, Jean enjoyed reading Amish novels, knitting scarves with her husband, and getting her nails done.
Jean Connon is survived by her husband and three daughters: Edward Connon, Dawn (Steve) Olson, Deborah (Brett) Peters, and Diane (Dr. Stuart) baker. Her grandsons and great grandson include Ryne Peters, Sam Peters, Gunnar Baker, and Anders Appel. Her granddaughters include Paige Olson, Taylor Olson, Ali (Damien) Appel, and Dr. Remmi Danae Baker (Dr. Anton Sediako).
Jean’s parents and siblings have all preceded her in death. They include Fred Hatke, Lucille Nevil-Hatke, James Hatke, Charles Hatke, Catherin Keil, Irma May, Anna mary Breedlove, and Frances Klutzke.
A private service is being held at the Star of Hope Mausoleum at Graceland Cemetery. In lieu of floral memorials, support can be donated to St. Teresa High School, Our Lady of Lourdes, and Marklund-Hyde Center in Geneva, IL.
