Jeanette began her wonderful life journey on August 28, 1930, in Robinson, IL, the daughter of Raymond and Elsie (Matheny) Watson. After graduating as valedictorian of Shelbyville High School, she married Wilmer Elmer German on June 12, 1948 in Shelbyville, IL.
In the early 1960s, Jeanette was employed as an accountant by Liberty Mutual Life Insurance Company in Jacksonville, IL, and earned her associates degree in accounting during night classes while she was a full-time working mother of four elementary to high school-aged children. She also worked for the Macon County Highway Department from 1989 to 1996, and the Macon County Sheriff’s Office from 1997 to 2007. Many Decatur residents knew Jeanette for her part-time work as the smiling and welcoming cashier at Home Town Buffet in Forsyth.
Jeanette loved attending First Evangelical Lutheran Church where she became a member when the family moved from Jacksonville to Decatur in 1966. She enjoyed word puzzles, playing cards, cooking, sewing, knitting, square dancing, Elvis Presley songs, long drives in the countryside and spending time with family and friends. She was a member of the Eastern Star, and actively supported Cub and Boy Scout activities for many years in Jacksonville and Decatur.
