Jeanette G. Knecht's Obituary
DECATUR – Jeanette Grace Knecht, age 95, of Decatur, (formerly of Darien, IL), went into the loving arms of Jesus, her best friend, at 11:44 PM Sunday, December 8, 2013 at Imboden Creek Living Center surrounded by loving family members.
Celebration of Life Service will be held on December 28, 2013 at Marion Hills Bible Church, 142 Plainfield Road, Darien, IL at 11:30 AM, Reverend William Price officiating.
Jeanette was born on August 17, 1918 in Chicago IL, graduated from Schurz High School and comptometer school. She was employed by Sears Roebuck and Co before her 29 year career as school secretary for Gower School District. She was the longest living member of Marion Hills Bible Church where among her many involvements her greatest love was teaching children in Sunday School. She was a member of Pioneer Women’s Club, attended Christian Women’s Club, and was a listening grandparent for Downers Grove Clem School students.
Jeanette was the daughter of Rudolph and Ruth (Peterson) Sjoberg. She married Harvey M. Knecht in Chicago IL on October 5, 1940. Survivors include: son, James M Knecht of Moffit, CO, Elizabeth J Knecht of Highland Park, IL; daughters, Linda L Black (Karl) of Mount Morris, IL; Karen M Luther (Robert) of Decatur, IL; Peggy S Donaldson (Don) of Mount Horeb, WI; 8 grandchildren, Derek Black of St Paul, MN; Robert Luther (Rhonda) of Forsyth, IL; Tammie Black of Oswego, IL; Bryan Luther of Bloomington, IL; Michael Luther (Heather) of Chesterfield, MO; Christopher Donaldson (Jackie) of Mount Horeb, WI; Tiffany Greenhouse (Gregory) of Highland Park, IL; Aimée J Carr (James) of Mount Horeb, WI; 17 great-grandchildren, Lillian & Lucy Black, Alexandria Falk & Noah Luther, Colton, Ashton & Preston Luther, Abigail, Elizabeth, Katherine, Josetta, Brigham & Barrett Donaldson, Dylan Greenhouse, Levi, Ava & Eirinn Carr, as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and her sister Ruth (& Herb) Ericksen.
We would like to thank the staff of Imboden Creek Living Center for the loving tender care given to Jeanette for the 5 years she resided there.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be given to either Imboden Creek Living Center, 180 W. Imboden Drive, Decatur, IL 62521 or to Alzheimer’s Research through the Alzheimer’s Association 2309 W. White Oaks Drive, Suite E, Springfield, IL 62704.
