Jeffrey Scott Matthews' Obituary
Jeffrey “Jeff” Matthews, age 64, passed away peacefully on September 26, 2025, at Northwestern Memorial Hospital, surrounded by the love and comfort of his family. Jeff will be remembered most for his unwavering faith in Jesus Christ, his deep compassion for others, and a personality that lit up every room he entered.
Born on January 25, 1961, in Phoenix, Az. Jeff was the cherished son of Bill and Karen (Harrison) Matthews. He graduated from Argenta-Oreana High School in 1979, where his passion for sports began—a love that stayed with him throughout his life.
In 1987, Jeff married Charlene Cummings, becoming a beloved part of her family: Mike (Patti) Cummings, Latrisha Cummings, Michelle (Scott) Muth, and Lindsey Reidel. Jeff and Charlene shared a devoted marriage until her passing in 2015.
In 2016, Jeff was blessed to reunite with and marry his high school sweetheart, Tami Ferrill. Through this union, he embraced another loving family: Troy Stoutenborough, Travis (Abbey) Stoutenborough, and Tyler (Brittney) Stoutenborough. Jeff was a proud and doting “Grandpa” to six grandchildren—Kalee, CJ, Josie, Tinley, Benny, and Ruby—who brought him endless joy.
Jeff found happiness in life’s simple pleasures: fishing, swimming, cheering on the Cubs Bears and the Illini, and most of all, traveling with his family. He is survived by his devoted wife, Tami; his mother, Karen; his brother, Mike (Sandy) Matthews; nieces Stephanie (David) Godines and their children Aubrey, Brayden and Adrianna and Jessica Matthews; his sister, Mindy (Bill) Provenzano; with nephews Colton (Judy) Provenzano and Blake Provenzano and his daughter Blakley
He was preceded in death by his father, Bill Matthews.
Jeff’s life was a testament to his faith. He loved the Lord deeply, cherished his church community, and now rests healed in the arms of Jesus. A celebration of Jeff’s life will be held on Saturday, October 11, 2025, 11:00 am at The Tabernacle Church, 1845 W. Hovey Ave., Normal, IL 61761.
