Jennie May Gronkowski, 93, of Decatur was called to Heaven at 9:05 am on Friday October 07, 2005 surrounded by her family.
Funeral Services celebrating her life will be 1:30 pm Wednesday, October 12, 2005, in the Moran & Goebel Funeral Home, with Pastors Gordon Jenkins and Larry Howard officiating, where visitation will be 6-8 pm Tuesday evening. Jennie was born on November 05, 1911 in Mount Herman, KY, the daughter of James W. and Lillie Gillon Borders. She married Oscar H. Gronkowski in Decatur on October 26, 1929, he preceded her in death on August 16, 1978. She was the last living Charter Member of the Church, where she served several capacities, including: Sunday School Teacher, Trustee, Deaconess, Sunshine Secretary, Treasurer of the Woman's Club. She was a room mother while her children were in school. She was a member of the Help-U Club. She volunteered for Meals on Wheels, American Diabetes Association, Easter Seals and the American Cancer Society. Jennie worked for Houdaille Hershey for many years, she also worked at the war plant in Illiopolis and for Oakes Production.
Jennie is survived by her loving daughters; Nancy Rostek and late husband Jerry of Decatur and their children: Karey and husband Mark McMillin of Lawton, OK, Kim and husband Eddie Michener of Oreana, and their children: Nathan and Jordan McMillin and Skot, Erik, Kurt Michener; Susan and husband Gary Mason of Decatur and their children, Tracy and her daughter, Malissa Mason of Decatur; son Gary Mason, Jr of Nashville, TN; Kathy and husband John Minott of Decatur and their children Jennifer and husband Robert Masters, Joshua and wife Alysia Minott, Jessica Minott and Jebediah Minott all of Decatur and grandchildren, Loren, Oscar and Kathlynn Masters. Other grandchildren include, Roger Finch of Fort Lauderdale, FL, Diane and husband Tom Kirkland and Denise and husband Ed Heckman all of Decatur. Other great grand children include, Karla Koester, Kelly Kirkland, Tommy Kirkland Jr, Christine Ramsey, Tisha Morr and Tammy Heckman. Nine great-great grand children, sisters include; Marie Smith of St. Joseph, MO, Helen Butts and Lucille Pundt both of Decatur.
Jennie was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Oscar; two daughters, Betty Finch and Barbara Gronkowski; one sister Minnie Lawler; three brothers, Johnny, James and Roy; one grandson Richard Finch.
Jennie was a very special person, loved by all she came in contact with and will be deeply missed.
