Jerry C. Gilbert, 77, of Decatur, died Monday, July 9, 2007, in Decatur Memorial Hospital
Born Oct. 18, 1929, in Decatur, the son of John H. and Viola Mae Coate Gilbert, Jerry worked as the Business Agent for Cement Mason’s and served at the 6:30 am mass as well as for many funerals. Jerry was also a member of the Elks Lodge, Lifetime member of O.P.C.M.I.A. #18, and was a ranger and starter at Scovill Golf Course for several years. He loved to hunt, fish, golf, and in his younger years play fast pitch softball. Jerry married Norma Jean Endrizzi on Aug. 3, 1948 in Decatur.
Surviving are his wife, Norma of Decatur; children: Carmen Richard Risley and Butch Connie Gilbert all of Decatur, Angela Roger Dyer of TN; siblings: Ruby Price of AZ, Wanda Haney and Peggy Lichtenberger both of Decatur, Billy Margaret Myers of Beecher City, Betty Petrowsky and Pat Paul Bundy all of Decatur; 6 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers: John, Clifford, James and Robert; sisters: Myrtle Kimble and Dorothy Cramer; great grandson, Niclaus Gilbert; 1 step-brother and 4 step-sisters.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 am Thursday, July 12, 2007, in Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 pm Wednesday in the Moran & Goebel Funeral Home, vigil prayer service at 5:30 pm. Burial will be held at a later date in Mt. Gilead Cemetery. Memorials: Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church.
