Jerry Leftlet Pierson's Obituary
Jerry Leftlet Pierson, 76, of Decatur, entered into rest on June 23, 2008 at Decatur Memorial Hospital, Decatur, Illinois.
Jerry was born in Champaign, IL on June 17, 1932. He graduated from Decatur High School, and attended Wilberforce University, Wilberforce, OH. He served in the United States Navy as a Draftsman Third Class during the Korean Crisis receiving the National Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. He was honorably discharged in 1956. He retired from the Defense Logistics Agency as an Industrial Specialist GS11 in 1987 after having lived in Illinois, Wisconsin, Indiana, Texas, as well as, Virginia and Washington, D.C.
He is a member of St. Peter’s African Methodist Episcopal Church. He is a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars VFW – Wilson and Taylor Memorial Post 730 and currently served as the Assistant Commander; and is also a life member of the American Legion ' Robinson & Stark Post 1972, and for many years was active in the Boy Scouts of America.
He is survived by his daughters: Rev. Camelia Pierson Eaves Ronnie, Durham, NC; Dr. Rosalind M. Pierson and Lisa R. Pierson, Silver Spring, MD; Granddaughters: Clarissa M Alford, Columbia, SC and Moiyra Eaves Felder Sebastian, Gaston, SC; Great-Grandchildren: PFC Antoine R. Eaves, Fort Bragg, NC; Ahmad and Amonii Alford, Columbia, SC; Makaylah Alford, Houston, TX; Zaquan Dixon, Zuric Dixon, Zavier Eaves, Nyel Felder and Anya Felder, Gaston, SC. He is also survived by his first wife, the mother of their children ' Berdenette H. Pierson, Durham, NC; special friend Mrs. Sharon Minor, and host of friends and neighbors.
He is preceded in death by his parents: Robert William Pierson and Georgia May Leftlet Pierson McClerkin, step-father: Melvin L. McClerkin and one great-grandson Zeshon Jerreal Robinson Eaves.
Farwell and Tribute service will be 11 am, Friday, June 27, 2008 at St. Peter’s A.M.E. Church where family and friends may gather after 10:30 am. Interment with Military Rites conducted by the Macon County Honor Guard will be in Camp Butler National Cemetery.
