Jesse H. Black's Obituary
Jesse H. Black, 84, of Decatur, went to be with the Lord at 5 p.m. Tuesday, August 30, 2011 in Decatur Memorial Hospital.
Mr. Black was born October 27, 1926 in Patoka, IL, son of E. C. “Cecil” and Nell Eagan Black. A member of Parkway Church of the Nazarene, Mr. Black was a Navy veteran of WWII and was on the board of directors of Vennard College in University Park, IA for 24 years. He retired as Senior Vice President and Comptroller of the First National Bank in Harvey, IL, and was an instructor for the American Institute of Banking. Mr. Black was a resident at Hickory Point Christian Village for 5 years where he often led Bible study. He married Joanna Eylander and she preceded him in death October 2, 1992, he then married Betty Calhoun and she preceded him in death September 20, 2003. He was also preceded in death by his parents; brother, Frank and son-in-law, Alan Gardenier.
Mr. Black is survived by his children: Betty Paul Radtke of Crestwood and Ron Marilyn Black of Decatur; step-children: Jim Pat Calhoun of Eureka, MO and Cindy Jerry Cameron of Carbondale; eleven grandchildren and step-grandchildren and seven great grandchildren; siblings: Rev. Eugene Helen Black of Mattoon, Lyle Dorothy Black of Salem, Rev. Earl Benita Black of Metropolis, Marie Robert Towler of Patoka and Dean Eloise Black of Vandalia; sisters-in-law: Marilyn Black of Carbondale and Carol Bob Bischoff of Decatur; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
The family will receive friends at Moran & Goebel Funeral Home Friday, September 2, 2011 from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. where a service Celebrating Jesse’s life will be celebrated followed by the “Flight Home” ceremony. Interment will be 11 a.m. Saturday, September 3, 2011 in Pleasant Grove Cemetery near Murphysboro. Memorial gifts may be made to: Parkway Church of the Nazarene.
The family wishes to thank the staff of Decatur Memorial Hospital 4100 and ICU West for their excellent care. We also want to thank Hickory Point Christian Village for their friendship and prayerful support.
