Davern, JoAnn's Obituary
Mrs. JoAnn Davern died October 4, 2024, at Primrose Retirement Community Decatur, Illinois. Funeral arrangements will be provided by Moran and Goebel, with a Funeral Mass celebrated at 11:00 AM Thursday, October 10, at Holy Family Church with Fr. Mark Tracy, celebrant. Visitation will take place one hour before the Mass.
JoAnn was born April 11, 1929, in Moline, Illinois, the daughter of Ethel (Starofsky) and Joseph Bredar. She graduated from Decatur High School in 1947. On October 25, 1952, she married John Davern at St. James Catholic Church Decatur, Illinois. She is survived by her sons, Daniel (Connie) of Porter, Indiana, Patrick of Decatur; daughter Gayle Yeakley of Decatur; and three grandsons Anthony Davern, Marcos Davern and Ryan Yeakley.
JoAnn was preceded in death by her husband John, parents Ethel and Joseph Bredar, and brother Robert (Rose) Bredar.
JoAnn was an executive secretary at Illinois Power Company and secretary at Decatur Public Schools, in between raising her family. She was a member of Holy Family Parish since 1965 and was a member of several charitable organizations in Decatur. John and JoAnn belonged to several clubs, had many lifelong friends in Decatur and enjoyed traveling. Her family expresses special appreciation to the caring nurses at Primrose.
