JoAnn Wayne's Obituary
JoAnn Wayne, beloved sister and friend, age 80, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 12, 2025, at Hickory Point Christian Village, Forsyth, Illinois.
Born on January 5, 1945, JoAnn was the eldest of ten children to Joseph and Mary (Seaberg) Wayne. She embraced her role as a supportive and encouraging big sister throughout her life, was a devoted caretaker to her brother Tim and shared her home with her sister Michelle.
A lifelong resident of Decatur, Illinois, JoAnn was a dedicated member of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church. Her Catholic faith was central to her life.
After completing her BA Degree in Elementary Education from Illinois State University in 1967, JoAnn devoted her professional life to education as a teacher at Enterprise Elementary School. Beyond the classroom, she extended her service to the community by serving on the board of directors for Macon Resources, Inc., contributing to its mission of supporting individuals with disabilities. In addition, JoAnn was a long-standing member of NAMI, the National Alliance on Mental Illness.
JoAnn was preceded in death by her parents, brother Tim, her aunt and friend Bernadine Johnson and her niece, Brittany.
JoAnn is survived by her sisters: Judy Rexroad (Ed), Mary Kay Crouch (Bob), Michelle Wayne, Patty Downing (Gerry) and Carol Denson (Charlie), brothers: Jim Wayne (Deborah), Paul Wayne (Debi), and Rick Wayne (Becky), 8 nieces, 8 nephews and many great nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 10am to 11am on Tuesday, January 21, at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Decatur, Illinois. Funeral Mass will follow at 11am. Moran & Goebel Funeral Home is assisting the family.
JoAnn’s legacy of kindness, dedication, and unwavering support will be cherished by all who knew her. May her memory bring comfort and peace to those whose lives she touched.
