Joe Baughman, 93, of Decatur, IL, died September 11, 2025, at Mt. Zion Health and Rehab Center. A private graveside burial will be @ Bethel Cemetery at a future date.
Joe was born on February 10, 1952, in Blue Mound, IL. His parents were Helen and Hershel Baughman who farmed north of town. Joe came from a family of nine. Surviving brothers Roger (Jean) and Elbie Baughman.
Our dad met JoAnn Damery in Blue Mound study hall. She was a freshman, and he was a senior. I guess it was love at first sight. Joe went to serve in the army, soon after returning they married on September 3, 1954. They raised three children Penny (John) McGinn, Cary Baughman, and Monte Baughman; grandkids: Molly Chamberlain and Matt (Jess) McGinn; six grandkids Ellie, Jack, Haddie Chamberlain and Joe, Max, Harrison McGinn.
Dad worked for years at Mueller's as a carpenter. Our dad was a simple, kind, caring man. He attended Holy Family Catholic Church - always setting great examples. He had the patience of a saint.
Two of dad’s great accomplishments besides his family – coaching the Holy family boys 1963 – 1964 for basketball, winning many of their games and making the Land of Lincoln Honor Flight in 2019. Monte accompanied him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife JoAnn, son Cary, three sisters, and three brothers.
