Joel Smokey Meador's Obituary
Joel R. “Smokey” Meador, Sr. 81, former Decatur Wal-Mart greeter died Friday November 19, 2004 in Decatur Memorial Hospital.
Funeral Services celebrating his life will be 8 pm Tuesday Evening in the Moran & Goebel Funeral Home and 1:30 pm Wednesday in Cozean Memorial Home 217 West Columbia Avenue Farmington, MO. Visitation will be from 5-8 pm Tuesday evening in Moran &Goebel Funeral Home with Masonic Service provided by Maroa Masonic Lodge. and visitation will be Wednesday afternoon from 12:30 pm to service time. Joel was born in Fredericktown, MO on May 13, 1923 the son of Joel V. Meador and Elizabeth Whitchurch. He was a Greeter for the North Wal-Mart Store in Decatur for many years. He was also a pipe fitter in the area for many years. He was a member of Maroa Christian Church. He served his country in the Air Force. He enjoyed playing bingo and meeting people at Wal-Mart. He married Ruby Robinette on January 22, 1952, she preceded him in death.
Joel is survived by his son; Joel Robert Meador, Jr of South Roxanna and his daughters; Lois Fennewald and husband Michael of South Porte, Florida and Virginia Kiley of Lincoln; grandchildren, Melissa Fennewald, Robert Kiley, Patricia Budde, Joseph Meador, Joel R. Meador, III and Jeffrey Meador; great grandchildren; Logan Budde, Alexandria Budde, Christopher Kiley, Mason Robert Kiley, Jordan Meador and Ruby Sadie Walbridge; brother William Meador and wife Mary Ann of Centralia, MO.
Joel was also preceded in death by one grandson Andrew Fennewald; two sisters, one brother and his parents.
Smokey as he was known to all who knew him, Joel loved seeing and talking to people as they came and went from Wal-Mart. He will be missed by all who knew and worked with him. He will especially be missed by his family
