John Fred Collins' Obituary
John Fred Collins, 89, of Decatur, died Monday, January 19, 2004, in Decatur Memorial Hospital.
Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Thursday, January 22, 2004 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, Fr. Richard Weltin celebrant. Visitation will be one hour before the Mass in the church. Moran & Goebel Funeral Home are in charge of arrangements. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery.
John was born on April 20, 1914, in Dahlgren, IL. the son of Charles and Frances Nice Collins. He was an Inventory Coordinator in the shipping department at A.E. Staley Manufacturing Company where he worked for 34 years retiring in 1977. After retirement he worked for 20 years at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in maintenance, lawn care and as custodian. He was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church and served as Chairman of the ushers for many years. John married Evelyn Marie Houchin on January 30, 1947 in Winchester, IL.
Surviving are his wife of nearly 57 years; nieces, Barbara Heil Cassell of Decatur; Eunice Collins Karcher of Dahlgren; Frances Collins Allen of Ada, OK; nephews, John Franklin Heil of Romeoville, IL; and William Quentin Collins of Decatur.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, John Patrick Collins who died on July 12, 1953, a day following his birth; a sister, Theresa Collins Heil; brothers, Charles Michael Collins and William Patrick Collins; and nephew, Charles Floyd Collins.
