John Clarence Dennis' Obituary
John C. “Jack” Dennis, Jr., 85, died Saturday, January 17, 2009, in his home.
John, or “Jack” as he was affectionately known, was born July 20, 1923, in Springfield, to John Sr. and Ada Colvin Dennis. He was raised in Decatur, and graduated in 1941 from Decatur High School. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II, in the 123rd General Hospital Unit in England. He retired after 40 years at Mueller Company in the print department as Office Services Manager. He was a member of the American Legion, and a life member of the Decatur Elks 401. He also belonged to the Golden K Kiwanis, in which he was treasurer for eight years. He enjoyed golf and taking his wife dancing. Together, they started dancing at Cresthaven with Dorothy Foster, and then went on to dance at the Forum. They belonged to Merry’s Merrymaker’s dance group, and the 5 o’clock dance club. He also enjoyed taking wedding pictures for Hubbard Studios. He belonged to The Red Coat Band, and played the saxophone.
He thought the world of his family, and is survived by his adoring wife of over 66 years, Madaline; devoted son, John R. Dennis Sherry; three loving grandchildren, Troy Carol Dennis; James Suzanne Dennis; Michael Bria Dennis; seven loving great grandchildren, Ashley, Alyssa, Amanda, Sophia, Logan, Jacob, and Isabella; and one sister, Lelia Mae Boudreau.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Louise Ellen Dennis and Dorothy Jane Conour.
Memorial Service will be Wednesday, January 21, 2009, at 1:30 pm, in Moran & Goebel Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 2801 N. Monroe St., Decatur, with visitation one hour prior. Burial will follow in Graceland Cemetery, with military honors by the Macon County Honor Guard. Memorials may be made to Decatur Memorial Hospital Hospice, 2300 North Edward Street, Decatur, IL, 62526, or the donor’s charity of choice.
