John Edward "Jack" Frankovich's Obituary
John Edward (Jack) Frankovich, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and dedicated educator, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by loving family, on July 28, 2024. Born in Joliet, Illinois, on March 12, 1927, to Michael and Kathryn Frankovich, Jack lived a life full of service, love, and commitment to his community.
Jack was educated at St. Raymond's Catholic School and Joliet High School. Immediately after graduating high school, Jack served in the Army's 503rd Military Police Battalion in Italy at the end of World War II. After his service, he attended Joliet Junior College and Illinois State University, where he earned his bachelor's degree in education, and later the University of Illinois to earn his master's degree.
Jack began his teaching career at Washington Elementary School, where he taught deaf and hard-of-hearing students. It was there that he met his future wife, Cecilia Shay. They married on August 1, 1959, and together they raised two children, Mary and John. Jack later transitioned to teaching high school students, spending 30 years at Stephen Decatur High School until his retirement.
Jack's dedication to education and his students was evident throughout his career. He touched many lives with his kindness, patience, and unwavering support. He will be remembered by many for his artistic and musical talents, his wonderful sense of humor and his kind and gentle soul. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who knew him.
Jack is survived by his loving wife, Cecilia, his children, Mary (Tim) Budreau and John (Janice) Frankovich, and his cherished grandchildren, Katie, Andrew, and Allison. He is survived by his sister-in-law Patricia Genta and many nieces and nephews. Jack was preceded in death by his parents, his parents-in-law Daniel and Anna Shay, his brother-in-law and sister-in-law Bill and Margaret Reedy, his brother-in-law Pete Genta, his brother-in-law and sister-in-law Jim and Jane Shay, and his niece Colleen Legge.

Jack was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church for 62 years.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church or to a charity of your choice.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday August 10, 2024, at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church with visitation one hour prior to the service. A graveside service will be held at St. Isadore Cemetery Bethany, IL.
