John L. Gordon's Obituary
John L. Gordon, 89, of Ankeny, Iowa, formerly of Decatur, died Thursday, December 11, 2008 in Iowa.
John was born November 12, 1919, in Niantic, the son of Samuel and Sarah Connaghan Gordon. John worked as a wholesale salesman for Hardware Products in Sterling before retiring in 1981. He was a member of Saints James & Patrick Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus Council #577 and Very Reverend Jeremiah J. Murphy Assembly #211. He married Gertrude N. “Trudy” Good March 10, 1945 in Decatur.
Surviving is his wife of 63 years, Trudy of Ankeny, IA; daughters: Cheryl Dean Bowen of Vandalia and Anne Marty Lyons of Ankeny, IA; grandchildren: Sandy Michel, Tracy Bowen, Heidi Wirey and Hayley Lyons; great grandchildren: Amy Gaffney, Caleigh Craft and Tristan Wirey.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one grandson, one great-great granddaughter, five sisters and one brother,.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 pm, Sunday, December 14, 2008 at the Moran & Goebel Funeral Home, vigil prayer service at 4:30 pm. Mass of the Resurrection will be 10 am, Monday, December 15, 2008 in St. James Catholic Church, Rev. Jeff Grant celebrant. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Illiopolis. Memorials: Saints James & Patrick Catholic Church or Calvary Cemetery, Illiopolis.
