John Paul Kupish's Obituary
Decatur-John Paul Kupish, 55, of Decatur, passed away at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, All Souls Day, November 2, 2013 in his home with his family by his side.
He was born June 3, 1958 in Decatur, the son of William Edward and Dorothy Marie (Shea) Kupish. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy. During his four year enlistment he traveled to many countries, oceans, and seas. He attended several Navy school programs and earned four advancements and ribbons from 1977-1981. Before his enlistment he worked at Ruperts Sport Shop, Kimmons Hardware, and K-Mart. After his military service he worked at Vega Enterprise in Harristown in all phases of production, the City of Decatur Water Department for twenty years in maintenance, Prairie Farms Ice Cream in Maintenance Department, and was self employed for years. He was a member of Ss James and Patrick Parish and the Legion of Mary. He enjoyed hunting from the early age of thirteen, as well as fishing and boating. He appreciated classic automobiles. He took great pleasure in letter writing friends. John loved his dogs Tina and Gina.
He leaves behind his brothers Chris (Diana) Kupish of Blue Mound, Jim Kupish of Decatur, and David (Debbie) Kupish of Olathe, Kansas, sisters Marie (Jim) Luedke of Sullivan, Rita (Chris) Standerfer of Chandler, Arizona, Dorothy (Lawrence) Stark of Greensburg, Indiana, and Lucy DelSarto of Olathe, Kansas, nephews Josh Kupish, Matthew Standerfer, Quinn Kupish, Nathaniel Kupish, Preston Kupish, and Spencer Kupish, and nieces Dawn (Jon) McCoy, Kelsey Kupish, Shea DelSarto.
He was reunited in Heaven with his parents, grandmother Marie Elizabeth Kupish, brothers William E. Kupish Jr. and Joseph Kupish, and nephews Michael T. Kupish and Will Luedke.
The family would like to give a special thanks to the doctors, nurses, and staff with the VA Medical Centers in Danville, IL and Indianapolis, IN.
Mass of Christian Burial to celebrate John’s life will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, November 5, 2013 at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 407 E. Eldorado Decatur, with Rev. John Burnette, Celebrant. Visitation will be 10-11 a.m. prior to the Mass at the church with a Rosary Service at 9:30 a.m. Burial with military honors conducted by the Macon County Honor Guard will be in Calvary Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the Decatur Macon County Animal Shelter or St. Patrick Catholic Church.
