John W. Mueller's Obituary
John W. Mueller, 85, of Glen Carbon, formerly of Decatur, died at 3:07 p.m. Wednesday, June 29, 2011 in Edwardsville, IL.
Mr. Mueller was born July 12, 1925 in Jefferson City, MO, son of Wesley H. Mueller and Effie B. Williams Mueller. He married Alice M. Schauwecker on November 27, 1947 in Jefferson City, MO. He served in the Army Air Corps during WWII receiving two Presidential Unit citations, Air Medal with three Oak Leaf clusters, and the European/African/Middle East campaign ribbon with five battle stars. He was a member of the 449th Bomb Group Association, VFW and American Legion.
Mr. Mueller was a graduate of the University of Missouri receiving a Bachelors Degree in 1949 and a Masters Degree in 1950. He served as teacher, Assistant Principal and Principal of Johns Hill Junior High School from 1958-1985. Mr. Mueller was a member of Illinois Principals Association, National Secondary Principals Association, and Phi Delta Kappa. He was also a life member of the National Education Association, Illinois Congress of Parents and Teachers Association and past president of the Decatur Public Library Board.
Mr. Mueller is survived by his wife of nearly 64 years Alice of Glen Carbon; children: Janice L. Mueller-Hamman K. Douglas of Belleville and James R. Mueller Zenita of Champaign. Also surviving are four grandchildren and five great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, John Julian Mueller and a brother Wayne.
The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. Saturday, July 2, 2011 until 11 a.m. where a Memorial Mass of the Resurrection Celebrating John’s life will be celebrated in Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, Rev. Richard W. Weltin, celebrant. Interment will follow in Boiling Springs Cemetery with Military Rites conducted by the Macon County Honor Guard. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to: Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church or Relais Bonne Eau Community Hospice Home, 7325 Marine Road, Edwardsville, IL, 62025.
