John Sherman Stauder's Obituary
John Sherman Stauder, 54, of Decatur, died Saturday, June 13, 2009.
Memorial mass will be 11:00 am, Wednesday, June 17, 2009 in Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, with Rev. Richard Weltin officiating. As was his nature, John has unselfishly donated his body to science, and though we will forever love and miss him, we are consoled in the knowledge that other lives may benefit from our loss.
John was born on March 25, 1955, and raised in Decatur, the son of Joseph B. and Dora Marie Garver Stauder. He graduated from St. Patrick’s Elementary School, and then from St. Teresa High School in 1973. He eventually settled in Sioux City, Iowa, after he retired from Tyson Food, Inc.
He is survived by his son, Christopher Joel Stauder Lindy, of Sioux City, IA; loving parents, Joseph B. and Dora Marie Stauder; devoted siblings, Michael Stauder Ruth, of Villa Grove, IL; Clair Emrick John, of Lancaster, PA; Connie Fogarty Michael, of Dalton City, IL; Julie Duffy Shannon, of St. Louis, MO; Liz Schultz, of Decatur; Martin Stauder Karla, of Westfield, IN; Nancy Blair Gary, of Chattanooga, TN; one granddaughter, Ava Marie Stauder; seven nieces, eleven nephews, two great nieces, and five great nephews.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, John J. and Catherine Stauder; maternal grandparents, Earl S. and Clara Garver; two uncles, Eugene L. Stauder, and Russell Garver.
The family wishes to express our most heartfelt gratitude to John’s doctors, especially Dr. A.T. Elrakhawy, to the entire 4th floor and ICU staff at Decatur Memorial Hospital, and the Prairie Rose Care Center in Pana, for the extraordinary care given to John during his illness. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations made to the American Heart Association, or the American Lung Association.
