John Edward Tokarz's Obituary
John “Toke” Edward Tokarz, 84, of Decatur, IL passed away February 17, 2024 at The Loft Rehabilitation of Decatur.
John was born June 14, 1939 in Decatur, IL, the son of John Michael and Margaret Leona (Briggs) Tokarz.
John was a veteran of the US Air Force, serving as a cook. He had the memory of preparing a steak for President Eisenhower while at Turner AFB, Albany, GA. Following his military service, John worked as a warehouseman for Ameren for many years. He had also served as a janitor for various school districts and companies.
Surviving are his daughters, Cindy Baker (Rick) of Decatur, Il, Robin Keyes (Jeff) of Decatur, IL, Lisa Tokarz (Mike Brandt) of Decatur, IL; brother, Joseph Tokarz of Oregon; sister, Lorraine Prignits (Tony) of Nevada; special friend, Joyce Thomas; grandchildren, Mallory Johnson, Kaylee Spain, Austin Keyes, Anna Peters, Steven Keyes, Sarah Keyes and Zoe Brandt and seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Jeffrey Scott; brothers, Kenneth Tokarz and Michael Tokarz and sister, Barbara Durbin.
Graveside service will be 11:00 AM Wednesday, February 21, 2024 at Graceland Cemetery.
Memorials: In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to St. Patrick Catholic School, 412 Jackson St, Decatur, IL 62523.
