John "Jack" Yoder's Obituary
Decatur-John “Jack” Yoder, 90, of Decatur, passed away Monday, October 07, 2013 in St. Mary’s Hospital with his family by his side.
Jack was born March 8, 1923 in Decatur the son of Charles and Mary (Sheehy) Yoder. He graduated from St. Teresa High School. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during W.W. II. D-Day four at Omaha Beach and with General Patton at his headquarters. He was previously employed as a printer. He worked his way up from entry level printer to Co-owner of Classic Printing. He then became the superintendent of printing for the State of Illinois. He was a member of Ss James and Patrick Parish Community, the Knights of Columbus, the American Legion, charter member of National Association of State Printers, and Past President of the American Business Club. He was an avid golfer. Jack married Margie Thompson June 15, 1946.
Jack leaves behind his wife Margie, son Michael Yoder of Springfield, daughter Cheryl Sprague and husband Rodger of Oakwood, grandchildren Andy Sprague and Marybeth Sprague, great-grandchildren Devin and J.J. Miles, brother-in-law Don Thompson and wife Doris of Geneva.
The family would like to give a special thanks to special cousins Johnny “Jerry” Sheehy and his son John Sheehy for all their care and support, to the nurses and staff at Imboden Creek Living Center for their compassionate care, and to the nurses and staff on the 6th floor at St. Mary’s Hospital for all of their care and comfort.
Mass of Christian Burial to celebrate Jack’s life will be 11 a.m. Thursday, October 10, 2013 at St. James Catholic Church, 742 E. Clay Decatur, with Rev. John Burnette, Celebrant. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the Mass at the church. Burial will be at a later date in Graceland Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to St. James Catholic Church.
