Johnnie ” Jake” Johnson age 64 of Decatur passed from life into glory at 6:55 pm on June 20, 2004 in his home, with family and friends by his side.
Homegoing services will be 11 am Friday June 25, 2004 in the Moran & Goebel Funeral Home where visitation will be from 6-8 pm Thursday June 24, 2004. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery. View the online obituary and send condolences to the family at: www.moranandgoebel.com
Mr. Johnson was born to the union of Mr. James and Lizzie Mae Smith Johnson of Gunnison, Mississippi on September 15, 1939. This is where he received his formal education. He moved to Decatur with his life long friend Essie Dennis, to this couple eight children were born. He later married Betty Bond in 1973; to this union three children were born. Johnnie worked at Superior Welding until closing.
Jake leaves not to mourn but to cherish his memory; one sister Aleatha Johnson of Gunnison, Mississippi, five brothers; Mr. Leon Pointer of Chicago, Illinois, Mr. Earnest Johnson of Gunnison, Mississippi, Mr. Frenchie Johnson, Mr. Archie Johnson and Mr. Tommie Johnson all of Decatur, Illinois. Twelve children; Johnnie Terri Dennis and Stanley Johnson of Ratcliff, Kentucky, Ricky Rachael Dennis of Redding, California, Archie Johnson of Arlington, Texas, Darren Cynthia Johnson of Brownsville, Tennessee, Roger Dennis of Atlanta, Georgia, George Dennis, Ivory Dennis both of Decatur, Illinois; daughters, T. Lashell Montiz Johnson-Evans, Coreatha Johnson, Keyonna Johnson and Tamika Cole all of Decatur, Illinois, 32 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren. A host of nieces, Nephews, cousins and friends also survive. A very special friend Ms. Johnnie Lofton and family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, five sisters, six brothers and life friend Ms. Essie. Jake will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
